Fashion In Detroit

   Fashion In Detroit is a bi-annual two-day fashion event created by Project Runway’s Joe Faris to put a fashion spotlight on Detroit and create a venue that fills the needs of many locally based designers and the Detroit fashion community.FID’s Executive Committee is made up of the area’s heaviest hitters in fashion, beauty and event management, who are committed to creating a fashion extravaganza to rival other Fashion Weeks around the U.S.

   The Executive Committee (from left): Karen Buscemi is the editor of StyleLine magazine, metro Detroit’s guide to fashion, beauty and home. She is also the host of Fashion In Detroit. Karen has been a fixture in the Detroit writing community for 12 years, with articles appearing in Self, Women’s Health, Figure and Successful Living, along with many local newspapers and magazines. She also provides wardrobe styling and art direction for fashion shoots, model comp cards, advertisements and CD covers.

   K’Kio Hardin has been design director of Clear magazine for the past seven years. He is also lead designer for Audi Magazine [U.S.] and has created the design standards for 4c and Ambassador magazines. In addition to editorial design, Hardin has been the creative force behind advertising campaigns for Dollhouse, Amuleti J, Inkslingers, and Vigoss Jeans. Currently he owns and operates the studio TLOS, a creative and design think tank.

   Joe Faris was a top six finalist on Project Runway Season 5. He competed in 10 design challenges, including Bryant Park New York Fashion Week and the Project Runway Season 5 Final Fashion Show. The Parsons School of Design graduate is a senior designer for Schott NYC and has spent 19 years as a designer in the fashion industry, holding senior design positions with top apparel companies including Donna Karen, Ralph Lauren, Perry Ellis, Bugle Boy and Pelle Pelle. He has also launched his own sportswear labels: Red Fly, Inkslingers USA and Double D Ranch. Joe is the co-creator of Fashion In Detroit.

   Lians has been creating one of a kind fashion editorials and campaigns for clients from Detroit to Paris for the last 10 years. He started his career as a photographer and retoucher for Clear magazine. He owns and operates LM Studios – a photography, post-production and creative consulting house – with business partner  

   Michelle Matiyow. His ad campaign work includes Warner Brothers Records, Sony PSP, Audi, Motor City Casino and  CBS.

   Leslie Ann Pilling is the president of Presence II Inc, the parent company of Presence II Productions and Leslie Ann Pilling Design. She is the co-creator of Fashion In Detroit. Pilling is a nationally known designer and multi-faceted business entrepreneur, specializing in producing and managing events. Her work has been featured in Spectacular Homes of Michigan, Detroit Home, Styleline, The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press as well as many other local publications.

   Rino is the founder and owner of Figo Salon. He is a transcendent master hair stylist. With 15 years of experience in hair design, Rino is coach, motivator, teacher, and sage to all the Figo team members. His passion, energy, and intensity are equaled only by his single-minded devotion to the fashion industry.
