New York — Bidding has begun on a vacation at the private home of Diane von Furstenberg in the Bahamas, a style consultation from Rachel Zoe and the chance to have a custom-made Barbie in your likeness.

They are among the experience-oriented auction items offered by the Council of Fashion Designers of America for its Fashion & Friends for Japan charity initiative.

All proceeds raised through the online auction on Charitybuzz.com benefit the Japan Society’s Japan Earthquake Relief Fund.

Other items offered include:

•A full day with Tory Burch — shopping in her store in the morning, lunch with the designer and nighttime tickets with backstage passes to Jay-Z and Kanye West’s concert.

•A full wardrobe of two labels, Elizabeth and James, and The Row, both designed by the Olsen twins, plus a meet-and-greet with designers Mary-Kate and Ashley.

•A fitting and custom suit from Tom Ford.

•A meeting with Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and invitation to attend a magazine photo shoot.

•A trip to Paris, Ralph Lauren-style, including a room at the Bristol hotel, dinner at Lauren’s restaurant, shopping spree at the St. Germain store, and tickets to an exhibit featuring the designer’s vintage car collection.

“The crisis in Japan is something that has affected us all and as a community and industry we felt a responsibility to act,” said CFDA executive director Steven Kolb in a statement. “This initiative hits very close to home as many members of the CFDA community have close business ties and partnerships in Japan and we view this as an extension of the work we accomplished in the ‘Fashion for Haiti’ initiative. The response we have received has been overwhelming and we continue to encourage donations and support.”

Bidding online, at www.charitybuzz.com, closes April 28.Tom Ford - Interview Magazine [United States] (February 2011)

Gisele Bundchen Ads Digitally Altered for Dubai

Posted by Erin Carlson–

The After/Before. H&M Ooh! Ooh! A new airbrushing scandal: Gisele’s bare skin has been judged too scandalous for H&M’s Dubai market of modest dressers. The retail giant digitally covered up the Brazilian-born, sun-kissed supermodel’s shoulders and cleavage in order to reflect the Middle Eastern city’s traditional dress code; touch-ups include a short-sleeved T-shirt photoshopped underneath a white halter (as shown in the photo to the left), and white tank tops added to de-sexify a low-cut dress and jumpsuit.

A rep for H&M did not immediately return our request for comment on the conservative alterations.

We could cry “censorship!” but it makes sense. H&M does big global business, and obviously, part of said big global business requires catering to clients’ cultural modes and ways of living.

That said, it’s always unsettling to see Gisele’s sexy toned down in any ad, ever.

Update: An H&M spokeswoman tells The Famous the company has “chosen to digitally add additional items to our campaign images.” She notes the brand typically alters ads for its Middle Eastern market, which is “stricter” about what can and can’t be displayed. Even if Gisele is involved.

Alexander McQueen A/W 2011; Hairstyles

Paris Fashion Week. Alexander McQueen A/W 2011 Fashion Show presented the label’s exquisite romantic-medieval-meets-dark-modernity-inspired collection along with the models having their hair all covered with large metal barrettes, making the illusion of a head-armour.

I have no idea where they got this hairstyle idea but I like it since it’s really unique and it gave this knights-and-armours medieval vibe. I love how the metal barrettes were clipped into rows, it looked really helmet-like I didn’t even noticed at first that those were rowed barrettes. What I don’t like about it is that it looks really uncomfortable, I’m sure it’s uncomfortable

Rachel Zoe-“Neon Wonder”

Abandoning all notions of subtlety, I am a woman who likes her jewelry  to be large and loud (in most cases). Open up my treasure box—make that,  boxes—and you’ll find cocktail rings, big bangles and declarative necklaces aplenty. The pieces that I am coveting for the new season are no  different, with Tom Binns’ Hand Painted Crystal Messai Necklace topping  my list. It’s crazy time!

Everything Tom Binns touches turns to glamour, so naturally, I keep a watchful eye on his  avant-garde jewelry line at all times. Part of his latest Ethno Teknic  Collection, today’s electric bright gem is an out of this world piece made of rhodium and hand painted Swarovski crystals. For an untouchable springtime look, rock this necklace with a lace dress, chunky platforms and bold clutch. xoRZ

Tyra Banks Is Going To Harvard Business School

Tyra Banks has been attending Harvard Business School since last year.

Enrolled in the Harvard Owner/President Management Program, the model-turned-mogul, 37, is intent on building her business savvy.  “It’s pretty exclusive,” she told CBS News. Pricey too. Banks is shelling out $31,000 a year to spend just three weeks on campus for three years. “But I feel like it is so, so worth it,” she said.  “In order for my company to grow and be the best, and to reach these women, and to serve them, I needed the best. So I went to the best.” The ex Victoria’s Secret stunner has been interested in going back to school since dropping out of Loyola Marymount University to purse modeling at age 17. “The day I put college on hold because I got discovered….was one of the most difficult decisions of my entire life,” she said.

So how do classmates react to the model-student? “I get mixed reactions,” she said. “There are little facial expressions….The chin goes back, like, ‘Really?’…it’s like why is a model going to Harvard? But that’s actually a good thing, because when people have low expectations, you’re just constantly going, ‘Ta-da!’ And they’re like ‘Wow.’ It doesn’t take a lot to wow them.”

Rachel Zoe: Why She Won’t Style Snooki

Rachel Zoe Won't Dress Snooki
Courtesy The Hollywood Reporter

Has impending motherhood softened the famously razor-sharp Rachel Zoe? Not quite! The stylist to the stars tells The Hollywood Reporter she’d never style Jersey Shore wild child Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi. Give her a break, though: “I don’t have time!” she says. “She’s so out there right now, that’s like a full-time job. It’s nothing against Snooki.” So what does Zoe’s packed schedule, which includes filming The Rachel Zoe Project and lining up eight Oscar dresses for Anne Hathaway, net her a year? The magazine estimates that between her $10,000-per-job fee and estimated $50,000 from Bravo per episode, plus her QVC line and other endeavors, the star stands to clear $20 million. Not bad for a stylist who started out making $18,000 a year. “I worked 20-something hours a day, seven days a week,” Zoe says. “I … spent all my money flying to Paris to go to couture because that was the dream. I crashed shows. Designers were my heroes and my celebrities. It hasn’t really worn off.” –Alex Apatoff

Paris Fashion Week, Day 2. Lady Gaga rocked Thierry Mugler Fashion Show as she strutted down the runway!

Gaga made a debut of her new single “Government Hooker” at the show, but above that… she made a debut as a runway model! She walked down the runway like an experienced runway model, closing the show wearing a sheer top(semi-transparent) animal print body suit with shoes 24 inches high. Her other look was a black sheer top over a black bra which reminds me of Madonna.

YOU GO, GAGA!

Matthew Williamson’s collection was beautiful, elegant, feminine, sporty and totally transparent. Washed-out and yet richer hues of blue, and red and yellow in harmony through the combination of gray and beige. Samples are clayey and so very discreet. In his case, there is always something to see fur, some with interesting color patterns or a kind of patchwork.

Paris Fall 2011:Carven, Rochas, Dries Van Noten,

Paris Fall 2011: Dries Van Noten, Carven, Rochas

Dries Van Noten Fall 2011 Dries Van Noten Fall 2011

(PARIS) Dries Van Noten
“Prints Charming” is Dries Van Noten’s perennial moniker. Van Noten’s collection was a royal coming out, with a number of exceptional fur pieces, including fur accents on sleeves, collars and lapels. The master of patterned fabrics turned out his luxe and skillfully mismatched array of looks in the Hôtel de Ville’s gilded and decorous ballroom, dripping with dimly light chandeliers and frescoed across the ornamental ceilings. His prints this season started with a swirl of movement, including floral pieces in a multitude of golds, whites and blues, and on to retro green circles on evening dresses, mixed with a measure of metallic threaded jackets and skirts. Everything clashed brilliantly. And as per usual, the end result was so charming, one would want to take home the whole collection.

Carven
Set at the Palais de Tokyo, Carven’s first formal presentation was dubbed a “showtation” by the brand’s designer Guillaume Henry. “Carven is accessible fashion, but with a Parisian twist,” explained Henry after the house’s presentation Wednesday morning. Attendees were pleasantly surprised to find a twist beyond the ensembles: an intimate show setting with no seating arrangements, only a smattering of French café tables and chairs organized in front of a large staging area, with models weaving through a series of staircases and doors. It was a bit like taking part in a stylish school assembly, showcasing Henry’s preppiest finery – toggle coat jackets, collared shirts, tartan tops, and cable knit sweaters, sometimes paired with shorts or draped, knee-length knit skirts. After school was over Henry showed another side, sending out medieval-inspired looks, but always aligned with his Parisian sensibilities. Beyond ravissant!

Rochas
After five seasons at Rochas, designer Marco Zanini showed a solid collection in his pursuit of chic via contrasts. Zanini mixed masculine and boyish looks with a feminine appeal by adding volume to blazers and carcoats paired with slightly oversized sweaters with elegantly pleated silk skirts. An array of astrakhan hats worn with aplomb seemed perfectly paired with the runway soundtrack, a medley of Deep South blues. Zanini chose a palette of muted aubergine, brown, beige and blue hues. A standout enlarged cheetah-esque print in a coat and skirt exemplified Zanini’s assertion that “at the heart of any great French brand are animal prints

Tisci’s Time at Christian Dior After Galliano is fired

Riccardo Tisci Riccardo Tisci
WILL RAGOZZINO/PatrickMcMullan.com

(NEW YORK) Now that John Galliano has been officially ousted from the top creative spot at Dior—which he held for nearly 15 years—the logical question, of course, concerns his replacement. The usual heavyweights have already been floated—Alber Elbaz, Stefano Pilati—but sources in Paris are fingering Riccardo Tisci as the top candidate for the job. “[Bernard] Arnault needs to move quickly to put this behind the house,” says one source with business ties to LVMH. “Promoting from within [LVMH] is the logical choice.” The 36-year-old Tisci, currently creative director at LVMH-owned Givenchy, joined the house in 2005. A native of Tartano, Italy, he worked as a carpenter, delivery boy, and store clerk to fund his education at Central Saint Martins. Tisci graduated in 1999 and worked in-house for companies such as Coccapani and Puma before launching his eponymous collection in 2005 and landing the Givenchy position months later.

“When I arrived at Givenchy, I was a guy from nowhere,” Tisci told the Times’ Cathy Horyn in 2007.” Givenchy was kind of confused. Nobody knew what it meant anymore. I think now the press is beginning to understand what I’m doing.” Tisci’s haute couture sensibilities—and the increasingly glowing reviews of his couture collections shown biannually in Paris—make him the most qualified candidate for Dior, whose storied couture operation was founded in 1946. However, the Givenchy ready-to-wear and accessory business is much smaller than Dior’s, with the menswear representing about 30% of the business. Givenchy operates only 16 freestanding stores—5 in Europe, 5 in Saudi Arabia, 2 in Qatar, and one each in Bahrain, Malaysia, Dubai, and Tokyo—while Dior operates over 160, including 12 in China alone.

Another top contender: Marc Jacobs, the artistic director of Louis Vuitton since 1998. Vuitton’s business is significantly larger than Givenchy’s, and Jacobs’ notorious strength in the accessory category must look appealing to Arnault, who would no doubt like to elevate Dior handbags to the must-have level of Vuitton. But to displace Jacobs would rock the boat at a cornerstone of LVMH’s portfolio; that may not be a risk Arnault wants to take at this juncture. As usual: stay tuned for more updates.

Dior fires designer John Galliano after anti-Semitic remarks.

Dior fires designer John Galliano after anti-Semitic remarks

The Dior fall 2011 fashion show is scheduled for March 4, but they’ll have to do the presentation without former designer John Galliano.

Warning Video is shocking  if you choose to watch it!!!  This article may shock you as well!!!

Fifty-year-old British designer John Galliano has acted as head designer of Christian Dior since October of 1996, but his reign came to a shocking end today as the result of his reported anti-Semitic behavior. Last week a couple accused the designer of making racist slurs toward them at a Paris café called La Perle. Upon learning of the allegations, Dior immediately suspended Galliano from his post despite the fashion house’s upcoming fashion show scheduled for March 4. Yesterday, an incriminating cell phone video was released (though there is some debate over when it was taken) capturing the incident and shows a seemingly drunk designer saying “I love Hitler.” He continues on saying, “People like you would be dead. Your mothers, your forefathers, would all be f—— gassed.” Click here to see the video.

A second complaint was filed yesterday with Paris police alleging an anti-Semitic verbal attack, and Oscar-winning actress Natalie Portman, the face of Miss Dior Cherie fragrance, released a statement about the incident: “I am deeply shocked and disgusted by the video of John Galliano’s comments that surfaced today,” said Portman. “In light of this video, and as an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr. Galliano in any way. I hope at the very least, these terrible comments remind us to reflect and act upon combating these still-existing prejudices that are the opposite of all that is beautiful.”

This morning, Dior said the company had begun the layoff process due to “the particularly odious nature of the behavior and words” of Galliano in the video. President and CEO, Sidney Toledano, told Women’s Wear Daily, “We unequivocally condemn the statements made by John Galliano, which are in total contradiction to the longstanding core values of Christian Dior.” There is no word yet on whether the Dior show or the John Galliano show will be canceled.

The news of Galliano’s departure has rocked the fashion world. His first couture show for Dior marked the label’s 50th anniversary, in January of 1997. Famous supermodels like Kate Moss, Helena Christensen, Naomi Campbell, and Linda Evangelista have walked the runway for Galliano, while stars like Madonna, Nicole Kidman, Charlize Theron, and Cate Blanchett have frequently worn his designs on the red carpet.

Interestingly, other designers have recently come under fire for racist remarks, but held on to their titles. Last fall, Jean-Paul Guerlain dropped the n-word several times during a French television interview, and Yves Saint Laurent designer Stefano Pilati made some racist remarks in 2007, commenting that “You can’t find [black models] that are beautiful and with the right proportions.”

I personally am truly disgusted-Fashion Zing
